Experience the Equestrian Life:
Trail Ride Tryon
Tryon is nationally known for its rich equestrian history and culture, and one of the best ways to experience the natural beauty of Tryon is by way of its backcountry trails — on horseback.
The community of Tryon takes great pride in the wild woods and the quiet, scenic trails that offer the best sort of escape into nature, and as such, these trails and their surrounding wilderness are protected, preserved, and maintained by organizations run by the people of Tryon.
Private Trails: The Foothills Equestrian Trails Association
The Foothills Equestrian Trails Association (FETA) is an organization run by citizens of Tryon dedicated to the preservation of the natural spaces and equestrian lifestyle of Tryon. They maintain a system of over 100 miles of trails, all privately owned by landowners who allow use of their land and trails.
Many of the trails maintained by FETA date back to the 1920’s, when Tryon first appeared on the equestrian map of America, though many are older, remaining from a time when western settlers followed old Native American trails into the woods. FETA was formed in 1993 by equestrians and landowners concerned with the preservation of these trails.
Today, FETA preserves and maintains some of the most beautiful equestrian trails in the country.
Public Trails: The Foothills Equestrian Nature Center (FENCE)
The Foothills Equestrian Nature Center (FENCE) is a 380 acre education and recreational area in Tryon dedicated to the preservation of nature. It offers an equestrian center comprised of show rings, stabling for over 300 horses, and a steeplechase course in which the Block House Steeplechase is hosted every year. It also offers six miles of hiking and riding trails through the lush and beautiful woods of its property.
